About Me

My story all began on a small farm in Woodlands, Manitoba where I was raised on a Dairy farm.  I have 2 older brothers who are both preparing to take over the family farm.  I have always been the odd one out when it came to farming.  I love the country lifestyle but I knew that my future did not lie on the farm.  I started developing my own interests at a young age.  These started with teaching Sunday School at my local church.  I enjoyed making lesson plans and trying to find engaging ways to keep the students entertained and learning.  After this experience I would occasionally go and work at Dauphin Bible Camp as a counsellor.  I really enjoyed working with young people so when I graduated from Warren Collegiate I embarked on journey to become a nurse.  After about a year of schooling in this area I realized this was not for me.

I decided at this point to take a year off and pursue my other interest, travelling.  I went to Switzerland and lived with a young family.  Here I learned French and helped out on their dairy farm.  Then I went to Germany to work as a waitress in a cafe and visit my family. I enjoyed this trip immensely.  I learned a lot about the culture of these countries. There are some pictures at the bottom of this page from this trip and some others that I have been on since.

When I came home from my trip to Europe I hadn't yet decided what I was going to do for a career.  I figured I would start by completing my science degree.  About a month into the school year I was helping some fellow classmates with an assignment and then it dawned on me, I should become a teacher.  Looking back it makes sense.  I have always enjoyed helping others and teaching. I completed my degree at the University of Manitoba, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry.  Then researched into the best education program available in Manitoba and found Brandon University.  I am currently attending my first year in Brandon.  My first student teaching placement was at Carman Collegiate.  Here I enjoyed and verified my choice of becoming a teacher.  I also learned a lot about running a classroom.  I can't wait for my next placement in Landmark where I will be leading an inquiry based learning experience in grade 11 Chemistry.
